Process
Strategic Intent ---- Strategy Formulation ---- Strategy Implementation ---- Strategic Evaluation
Strategic intent- is something to do with intention . It includes mission , vision , Objectives
Strategic Formulation - Strategic intent leads to strategic formulation , all the external factors like SWOT
Strategic Implementation - Resource allocation , division takes place
Strategic Evaluation - analyse and assessment to take next steps.
STRATEGIC INTENT
It has 5 layers -
1. Vision - is the mental perception , it will be future oriented and will be inspiring . The vision statement can be vague also.
2. Mission - Motive behind working in the organisation . It is more with the current purpose of the organisation.
3. Business Definition - It includes people , profit and planet. How its going to be today and the future.
4. Business Model - Where the inputs come from , processing and outputs possible in the organisation . Financial and revenue model are the subsets of it . In the organisation there is some asset used . The external environment should also be included. It gives the clear cut picture of resources and product market position which are translated into profits.
5. Goal and Objectives - It can change but the above mentioned cannot be changed easily .Therefore it is at the external part. The company in pandemic were looking to survive , there were short term goals . It is the overall aim of the organisation . Goals will be umbrella term.
LEVELS OF STRATEGY
1. Operational Strategy - Small different within the functional area .Regions
2. Functional Strategy - R and D facilities are there.Different Departments
3. Business Strategy - How to implement the strategy . SBU
4. Corporate Strategy - It is the top level , Tata will be corporate but tata steel , tata power are its subtypes . Tata will give directions to them.
Strategic Business Unit SBU
It is the relative autonomous division. example each club has different activities like social , entrepreneurial etc . Because they are doing different activities but they still come under one roof whether institution or organisation . They come under bigger unit .
In a corporate there could be different business which do different activities but come under one Organisation .
Example- Tata has different product or market segments but sell as a name of a brand called Tata . The product of that sub unit company will have different competitors and their own independent problems . Tata sub units are indicom, motors etc.
SBU have separate Mission and objectives . It will not include vision because the core value and implementation will be of Corporate level.
Mission can be different because the product produced are different therefore the mission can be changed but not the vision .
Characteristics of SBU
A company having SBU will have its own business mission .
It has a different set of competitors.
It is autonomous and flexible.
It has different Strategies .
